I had a new year's resolution for 2015. To find a new career path.My reasons being
1.I have not managed to crack the industry in my career as a telecoms technician since immigrating to Australia for various reasons
2. Needing to find where my true passion lies, as that is an question i had not truly explored due to circumstances.
3. I do not want to spend the rest of my life bemoaning my situation regarding jobs as i am approaching 40 , i need to be sure of who i am.
Interests:
1. Knitting
2.Sewing
3. Crotchet
4. Gardening
5. Anything to do with numbers
6.Crafts
In short, anything that involves me physically making something. Its a no-brainer , I'm wired that way because I like owning a project from beginning to end. I get satisfaction when it is complete. My next question was how to turn these interests from hobbies to money making ventures.I did one craft market run back in 2012.It was an eye opener. I do not believe that I have persevered with the markets long enough to get concrete results. The long and short of what my interests are was shaped by my childhood.
Growing my mother was an avid seamstress and knitter.Naturally we were curious and wanted to learn. By the time I was 10 years old, I had knitted hats and booties. My first cross stitch and hardanger projects were done when I was 8 at school. I made my first skirt when I was 11 and there was no looking back after that.During my teenage years i made quite a few of my own clothes.I also experimented with modifying commercial patterns. When I was in college,I did more of the same.
Regarding knitting, I made jumpers.I was always fascinated with intricate knitting styles. I did lace, cable and fair isle. One of the drivers in my experimentation was finances or lack thereof.I have struggle lately to understand how to monetise these types of talents when jumpers sell for $10 in the shops , but cost so much more to make.
In my next post , i am going tell you about a more newly discovered talent which was born out of necessity.Till then..........
